The maritime industry is experiencing a period of continuous change, both locally and internationally. The technological, legislative, environmental, protection and security changes have forced to raise the professional standards of the human resource of the industry. The maritime and transport sector has required the specialization and globalization of its workforce and our country has not been oblivious to this panorama. Panama requires a new professional who can remain competitive in the development of these areas, who leads a professional movement that allows and encourages the creation of advanced strategies, in harmony with the best practices of international maritime centers. Trained personnel that allows maintaining the position of Panama as regional leader in port activities, trade services, multimodal transport, logistics, cargo redistribution and consolidation, and in auxiliary maritime industries.

OBJECTIVES

Educate and train the human resources that in a short, medium, and long term, the priority areas will demand, to achieve the development of the country and the region, with special reference to the abundant technical and bilingual terminology used in the maritime sector. To provide students with the necessary tools and qualifications to be competitive, providing them with a solid base in the areas of operation, logistics, administration and maritime legislation and preparing them to perform, from a practical and analytical perspective, in any area within the maritime conglomerate.

Create an efficient structure and organization to offer a teaching that integrates the human, economic, legal and technical elements with a social and business orientation of the reality of international transport and port management in Panama and the Central American region.

Provide the necessary human resources to meet the demand of companies that will have to prepare to acquire the skills required by the market, to maintain the levels of efficiency and effectiveness demanded by the maritime transport industry and contribute to develop and strengthen a true cultural identity of the national maritime sector and the region.

Execute postgraduate courses in specialties of interest for the social, economic, political, and cultural development of the country and the region, giving greater emphasis to the training of researchers.

Satisfy the technical training needs of the companies and institutions that comprise the conglomerate of the maritime sector through special programs.

BACHELOR DEGREE IN MARITIME AND PORT MANAGEMENT


Description

The UMIP offers graduates of this degree knowledge about the procedures of import operations, export, and transshipment of goods in a port terminal; the legal aspects that regulate the national port institutions, as well as the basic principles in the planning, organization, direction, control, and costing in the services of the port industry. It will also be able to supervise all the personnel and operations that are developed within the port system, will be able to evaluate and analyze the conditions that could affect the development of maritime transport, know the maritime legislation in the national and international field. The graduate will have character, responsibility, and tolerance, will act as a true agent of change. It will be able to make decisions and take actions that favor the protection of the environment and will be committed to the development and welfare of your society.

Description

It is important for a country whose growth does not diminish its development, to encourage professionals through the centers of studies, especially if the professions are necessary for the economy and development of a country. The UMIP through this new academic offer is innovating specialized careers through graduates capable of solving the real needs of the maritime sector, this profile is achieved by producing a professional with high capabilities. This engineering career seeks to innovate the maritime industry from the perspective of processes, the International Maritime University of Panama, through the Faculty of Maritime Transport offers a new concept of Engineers specialized in the maritime sector with multidisciplinary application.
